Experience the Canadian arctic through different jourrnal streams and discover this land from unique perpectives!

June 2009: Following up on his painting and exploration of the western arctic and eastern arctic, artist Cory Trépanier is preparing a month and a half lomg expedition to the top of the world: The Canadian High Arctic.

For a month and a half, Cory will be painting in some amazing wilderness places. First month will be in Quttinirpaaq National Park on Ellesmere Island. Then he drops "south" to Bathurst Inlet, where he will canoe and hike to Wilberforce falls, considered by many to be the largest waterfalls north of the arctic circle. The last week will be back up in the Pond Inlet region, exploring and painting Sirmilik National Park

Cory is sharing this amazing journey to this amazing land through his paintings, video journals, audio dispatches, photos, stories and more. Explore below for yourself!

During year 1 of the Into The Arctic travels (2006), Andie and Sydney brought a unique kid's perspective to the journeys.

Under Way

"As I write, we have put on a few of the many miles to come, and find ourselves veering west onto Hwy. 17 at Sudbury, Ontario. What lies ahead as we undertake this cross-country journey is somewhat of a mystery, one that will reveal itself with each passing day. It’s not without a few small concerns that we embark on this 1st leg of our Into The ARCTIC project: a 2 and a half month exploration across Canada and the western arctic wilderness. However, the visual overload that I will get as an artist who paints landscapes is more than enough to overcome them. Add to that the lure of adventure and discovery, and mix in the company of your loved ones, and this will no doubt create a recipe for a life-changing summer to remember.

With almost a year of planning now behind us, I now pause and reflect upon how fortunate I am to have a family that not only shares in my vision, but that are an integral part of it. Our girls are old enough now to not only come along, but also to contribute their own thoughts and stories, allowing us to share the experience on many levels.

I hope these journals, in their various forms, will create a window for many to share in the wonders of this great land, and encourage others to appreciate it further, and explore it on their own."
